Personality doesn’t come from biological conflicts.
It's the other way around.
Personality comes first, and it shapes the kinds of conflicts a person creates, how those conflicts are experienced, and how quickly they are resolved.
There are translation errors in Germanic New Medicine, and when we make "authority" the standard instead of our own wisdom and deeper inquiry, we actually become territorial about the subject. That's what leads to arguments...and to territorial conflicts.
That brings me to the topic of this Mind Over Symptom episode, which is the phenomenon of developmental arrest.
When we have a constellation of two temporal lobe conflicts (where masculine territory conflicts and feminine belonging conflicts are relayed), we instantly stop developing (evolving) in regard to that conflict content. If this happens when we are children, this is what is diagnosed as developmental disability, developmental delay, or developmental arrest.
But developmental arrest isn't stupidity or emotional weakness.
It is immaturity.
And that's actually the opposite of stupidity. Children are neurological geniuses, soaking up information and knowledge like a sponge.
But true maturity - true mothering and fathering within a tribe and management of territory and belonging within territory - requires something different than learning multiple languages, doing complex math, and memorizing encyclopedic levels of information.
Maturity requires responsibility and the willingness to look beneath surface meanings: two things small children just don't have yet.
So what is the biological and evolutionary purpose of developmental arrest?
Developmental arrest is a meaningful special biological program that makes us wait, or hesitate, because of two temporal lobe conflicts that effectively "close" both temporal lobes to normal awareness and responsiveness.
When both these metaphorical “doors” are closed, the psyche waits.
It does not stop because it is broken. It stops because it is not yet ready.
This episode explores:
- Why personality comes before biological conflict
- Why defensive patterns can still reflect special biological programs in action
- Common translation problems in GNM/GHK
- The relationship between developmental arrest and schizophrenic constellation
- Why developmental arrest is really about waiting, not stupidity
- What someone may be “waiting for”
- How catching up becomes possible once the second conflict and then the first conflict are addressed
- Why there may be a hidden superpower developed during the waiting period
The core idea is simple: developmental arrest has a purpose. While someone is waiting, something is being accumulated. Skills are being built. Capacity is being prepared. The evolutionary benefit is real, even if it cannot be fully expressed until those two doors begin to open.
